| Folger Stable Renovation |
|
For many years the Stable was slowly deteriorating, with no public funds available to preserve the main building or the surrounding Carriage House, Blacksmith Barn, Dairy House, and stone walls. In 2002, the Friends formed the Folger Estate Stable Committee and, in conjunction with the San Mateo County Parks Department, began the process of renovating the stable to its original condition. The renovation project was guided by the Construction Steering Committee, chaired by Rob Flint. Members of the committee included architect Adolph Rosekrans, Parks and Recreation Director Dave Holland, industrial designer Stephanie Scheafer, and Friends members Jill Daly, Joe Geist, Susan Green, Susan Lang, Suzanne Muller, and Bill Wraith. The renovation of the Folger Stable began on December 1, 2008, with construction done by Gonsalves and Stronk Contractors. The project was completed in April of 2010 and the site was opened to the public the following September. Today the beautifully renovated Folger Estate Stable is a precious historical treasure. It is still operated as a public horse-boarding facility, one of the few left on the Peninsula. Carriage Room MuseumThe original Carriage Room within the main stable has been transformed into a magnificent museum that showcases our local history, including the lumbering, farming, and great estate eras. The Carriage Room museum is open to the public on Saturdays from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. View Photo Gallery Guided ToursGuided group tours of the stable and site are given on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
